Yingge Dance is a folk dance from the Chaoshan region of Guangdong Province, China, integrating elements of drama and martial arts. Known as the ‘Chinese War Dance,’ it is recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage. Dancers are elaborately dressed as heroes from the novel Water Margin, wielding dual batons and performing to the rhythm of gongs and drums – a symbol of good fortune and peace.
This performance was showcased by the Puning Fumi Youth Yingge Team, featured in the 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, and six-year-old inheritor Zhuang Enqi, hailed as a young guardian of China's intangible cultural heritage. Renowned for its vigorous style, the team, along with Enqi's charm and remarkable skills, vividly displays the essence of Chaoshan Yingge – a tradition with over 300 years of history – radiating brilliance in the field of cultural preservation.

This dynamic performance captivates audiences with its powerful momentum, showcasing an acrobatic art that embodies the spirit of pushing limits and moving forward. Using a vibrating pole approximately 5 metres long and only 15 centimetres wide, the performers execute fluid flips, leaps and balances with seamless rhythm. The routine progresses to incorporate single, double and triple poles, featuring both solo and duo techniques through ever-changing combinations and formations – creating a truly dazzling spectacle. This act has won the Gold Award at the 7th National Acrobatic Competition.

A mysterious keeper leads its way, enveloping their steps with suggestive smoke. The Chromosaur is brought to life by an actor who uses a complex system of weights and counterweights to steer it. Its movements are so smooth and its steps so natural that it appears to have a life of its own. A powerful shaman leads the way, mediating the creature’s connection to the audience.
