Wing Lee Street is home to a cluster of old terraced tenement buildings from the 1950s – an increasingly rare sight in modern-day Hong Kong. In 2010, the street gained newfound fame when it was featured in Echoes of the Rainbow, a local film depicting the lives of a grassroots family in 1960s Hong Kong. The film went on to win the Crystal Bear for Best Feature Film at the 60th Berlinale Awards. Thanks to the film's success and the subsequent public support it generated, the original redevelopment plans for Wing Lee Street were scrapped and the houses have since undergone restoration to ensure that this slice of the city's heritage will endure.
