If you think Lan Kwai Fong is merely a series of raucous, down and dirty bars, then think again. High above the throng on the 10th floor of the Cosmos Building sits this cosy bolthole. A relaxed, quiet spot,is home to an impressive variety of more than 150 whiskies that’ll keep you coming back for more.
If the name sounds odd, know this:is a library for whisky. Tucked away on the fourth floor of an anonymous commercial building in Wan Chai, the bar has a superb collection, especially of Japanese types. Don’t believe us? Try the Nikka 40, a blend that contains whiskies up to 40 years old. It’s only HK$8,000 a glass.
A sister establishment to the renowned Yardbird restaurant, which is within walking distance, boasts not only exceptional Japanese cuisine but a mighty fine range of whiskies from the same country. There are rarities here you’re not likely to find anywhere else. They also offer a mean range of whisky highballs if you’re after something longer.
Another secluded bar — this one down an alley off of Wyndham Street —is designed like an Edwardian London member’s club. Settle down in one of the bar’s comfy alcoves and take your pick from the bar’s assortment of more than 150 great whiskies.
