In Hong Kong, you’ll find many themed bars that take you on a journey to different eras and places. Nestled across from Tai Kwun, Maggie Choo’s is hidden at the rear of an antique shop on Hollywood Road, whisking you back to the glamour of 1930s Shanghai. The bar’s design evokes the atmosphere of an abandoned 1847 East India Company bank, complete with vault doors and a bar fashioned to resemble a bank teller’s station.

Maggie Choo’s is one of the ventures by Ashley Sutton, the creative genius behind other renowned bars including The Iron Fairies and The Mixing Room. Maggie Choo’s evenings are a vibrant affair, filled with soulful jazz tunes and mesmerising cabaret acts. After 10 pm, the venue transforms into a lively club scene, keeping the energy high until the wee hours of the morning.
