General Manager, Event & Product Development

Location: Hong Kong

At the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), we are passionate about showcasing our city as a must-visit destination. Upholding Hong Kong’s position as the Events Capital of Asia, the HKTB continuously organises, supports and promotes mega events to generate positive impact. Mega events not only demonstrate Hong Kong’s appeal and competitive edges but also create exciting experiences for visitors, which in turn contribute to economic revenues.

We are looking for an exceptional leader for the position of General Manager, Event & Product Development, to join our senior leadership team and spearhead this ambitious initiative. This unique opportunity allows you to help shape the future of tourism in Hong Kong by leading the development and execution of impactful strategies that will cement our city's status as a world-class destination.
 

Major Accountabilities:

  • Formulate strategies for holistic and signature events and tourism product development that enhance the core visitor experience proposition and strengthen the city’s tourism appeal in global markets.
  • Lead, guide and motivate talented teams to explore new opportunities, generate innovative ideas, leverage strategic partnerships and transform existing promotions. Deliver high-impact events and support third-party events that create captivating tourism experiences that engage global audiences.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to create integrated marketing, public relations, and trade plans that maximise awareness of our events and products.
  • Develop strategies to attract commercial sponsorship to enhance the financial performance and returns of events.
  • Cultivate and maintain robust partnerships with sponsors, stakeholders and government departments to ensure the smooth implementation of all events and programmes.
  • Effectively manage the division’s human resources, budgeting and expenses.
     

Job Requirements:

  • A seasoned business leader with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in Event Management and Promotion, Marketing or Public Relations, preferably in the tourism sector, including at least 8 years in a senior management role.
  • Extensive knowledge of event management and experiential promotion, with a proven track record of managing large-scale events.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of market needs for tourism-related products and event development. Proven strategic thinking skills to formulate effective event development strategies.
  • Exposure in collaborating with government departments and district councils and a solid understanding of the dynamics between the travel trade, government entities, product providers, event organisers and NGOs is preferred.
  • A proven track record of managing a sizeable team and the ability to build a winning team capable of achieving dynamic results.  Highly collaborative within the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about promoting Hong Kong as a world-class destination.
