The Sham Shui Po Police Station was built in 1925 to combat rising crime rates in what used to be one of Hong Kong’s worst squatter areas. This pre-war Neo-Classical façade mixes Western and Chinese architectural elements, with deep verandas, decorative balustrades, keystone arches, and a pagoda-style roof covered with Chinese tiles. The building comprises five three-storey structures arranged on the corner of Yen Chow Street and Lai Chi Kok Road to offer a good vantage point of its neighbourhood. Though its designation has been changed to a sub-station since the 60s, the Sham Shui Po Police Station is still serving its community to this day.
