An artistic voyage through Jin Yong’s world: Hong Kong harbour tour

A hundred years ago, the literary legend, Jin Yong (Dr Louis Cha), was born. ‘A Path to Glory — Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial’ is a memorial event that encompasses culture, art, creativity, heritage and education, paying tribute to the master of martial arts fiction. Whether you’re a fan or simply want to admire art against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s dazzling Victoria Harbour or at various attractions and cultural landmarks, you won’t want to miss the Jin Yong x Arts in Hong Kong Harbour Tour.

Through a series of exhibitions showcasing Jin Yong’s iconic characters through Ren Zhe's sculptures, the tour aims to gather martial arts enthusiasts from around the world to relive the classics and pay tribute to the timeless legacy of Jin Yong.

 

A Path to Glory – Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial events around Hong Kong

The World of Wuxia


While enjoying the mesmerising Victoria Harbour, take a tour of the surrounding arts like this exhibit at Edinburgh Place in Central. Recreating the scenes and distinctive costume designs from the novels, renowned sculptor, Ren Zhe applies his masterful technique and visionary creativity to 10 sculptures of Jin Yong’s characters here.   

Image 1: The magnificent statue of Genghis Khan captures his extraordinary persona as both a historical figure and a character in Jin Yong's stories.  

Image 2: Ren Zhe’s non-realistic approach integrated with exaggerated poses portrays the serene and wise Golden Wheel Monk. 

Image 3: Enjoy an immersive experience incorporating technology with the sculptures, like with the brave and determined Guo Jing.

Continue the tour to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Sha Tin where Ren Zhe brings to life 22 characters from five of Jin Yong's novels, namely The Demi-Gods and the Semi-Devils, The Eagle-shooting Heroes, The Giant Eagle and its Companion, The Heaven Sword and the Dragon Sabre and The Smiling, Proud Wanderer. 

Image 1: See beloved characters from Jin Yong's literary universe like Guo Jing and Huang Rong, who epitomise the harmonious union of strength and resilience. 

Image 2: Ren Zhe skilfully uses expressions and the interplay of light and shadow on surfaces to showcase complex characters like Xiao Feng. 

Image 3: Brand-new multimedia experiences help revered characters like Hong Qigong to shine with their distinctive humour.

Sculptures at other collaborative landmarks

Sculptures of Jin Yong’s characters are also displayed at other landmarks around Hong Kong. If you are flying into Hong Kong, don’t miss the sculpture of Guo Jing at the Hong Kong International Airport, or Chen Jinnan at the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal, where you can also enjoy panoramic southeastern views of Victoria Harbour. To complete the tour of Jin Yong’s fascinating characters, make sure to visit the Golden Snake Warrior at the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal. Located on the western side of the Harbour, come during sunset to get stunning views of Hong Kong as well as this intriguing sculpture.
