Spectacular festive illuminations, fabulous sales and fantastic dining promotions ensured that the annual Hong Kong WinterFest which concluded on 4 January 2009, a magnificent celebration of the winter season – turning Asia's world city into a sparkling winter jewel filled with happiness and warmth.

As the centerpiece of the city's Christmas celebrations, downtown Central was decorated with a 30-metre-tall Giant Dazzling Christmas Tree in Statue Square that became a beacon of light beckoning holiday revellers. This iconic tree, set against the magnificent backdrop of the surrounding brightly illuminated skyscrapers turned nighttime Central into a must-visit destination.
Over a thousand carol singers aboard an anitique tram, an open-top bus and themed trucks enhanced the WinterFest ambiance travelling around the city spreading good tidings and cheer.
The climax of the festivities, Hong Kong's New Year Countdown Celebrations to welcome 2009, featured an amazing pyrotechnic display involving Hong Kong's tallest building, Two ifc. This event was carried live on local TV (TVB Jade Channel) and also appeared on its website.
Besides lavish celebrations, festive night harbour tours featuring skyscrapers dressed in a dazzling galaxy of colourful lights and themed decorations left visitors with memorable photos of the stunning nightviews of Asia's World City.

Asia's shopping capital offered visitors the best value and the widest choice of merchandise imaginable, leaving happy shoppers awestruck at their good fortune.

Hong Kong is famous for the variety of its cuisine, and foodies took advantage of the fantastic dining offers available in major food districts during the WinterFest period.
