Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations

This New Year’s Eve, join the throngs of cheering revellers along Hong Kong’s waterfront and usher in 2016 with a bang!

The radiant Victoria Harbour is the belle of the ball for Hong Kong’s spectacular New Year countdown. A party atmosphere will reign supreme as an eight-minute pyromusical display lights up the skies above the iconic Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Whether you watch it along the shoreline, from a boat on the harbour or on-high in a skyscraper, it’s definitely worth planning early to ensure a prime spot!

Victoria Harbour

When the clock ticks down to midnight, you’ll want to have your viewing spot firmly staked out and your loved ones close as Victoria Harbour erupts in an eight-minute heart-pounding pyromusical.

As the hour strikes, watch as the brilliant 2016 display illuminates the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre! Fireworks and special effects will launch from Hong Kong’s waterfront and surrounding skyscrapers, lighting up the layers of the city skyline.

Wish Upon a Star

Make a wish upon a shooting star and get your new year off to a great start. Beginning at 11pm at 15-minute intervals, rooftops around the harbour will emit a series of ‘shooting stars’. So, when you see them, make a wish and it just might come true!

The Hong Kong New Year Countdown will be a breathtaking display that will bring out the dramatic beauty of Victoria Harbour and the city’s renowned skyline. So, you’ll definitely want to pick a good spot to take in the show. Here are some suggestions:


Along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront

- Hong Kong Cultural Centre Open Piazza and Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade

 How to get there
  • MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station, Exit J, and follow the signs to Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Or MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station, Exit P1, and walk across Salisbury Road to Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade. It’s about a 15-minute walk.

Along West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade

 How to get there
  • MTR Kowloon Station, Exit E4 or E5, walk through Nga Cheung Road and cross the footbridge. About 15-minute walk to Waterfront Promenade.

Hong Kong Island

The New Central Harbourfront

 How to get there
  • MTR Central Station, Exit A, turn right and take the covered walkway to the Star Ferry Pier and turn right to the promenade. It’s about a 15-minute walk.

Area around Central Piers 9 and 10

 How to get there
  • MTR Hong Kong Station, Exit E1. Walk through ifc mall to Central Piers.

Golden Bauhinia Square, Wan Chai

 How to get there
  • MTR Wan Chai Station, Exit A5. Follow the signs to Golden Bauhinia Square via the covered walkway. It’s about a 15-minute walk.

Remarks: Road closures are anticipated in the Tsim Sha Tsui area from 8pm onwards, so make sure you’re in place early.
