Nam Sang Wai

Nam Sang Wai

Nam Sang Wai Crisscrossed by the Kam Tin River and Shan Pui River, Nam Sang Wai‘s rustic scenery attracts bird-watchers, cyclists and picnickers, as well as photographers and even film crews. You can explore the area along a network of paths. This landscape of (mostly abandoned) farms and glistening fish ponds surrounded by waving tall reeds and simple wooden huts will make you feel a world away from urban Hong Kong.

Starting Point – Nam Sang Wai Road

Start your exploration of this area on Nam Sang Wai Road, which encircles Nam Sang Wai. Stroll along the bank of the Shan Pui River and enjoy the lush scenery. In 2003, this area made the news when a 1.5-metre-long crocodile was spotted here. Named Pui Pui, she was caught seven months later and is now living in the Hong Kong Wetland Park.

Mudflats

Nam Sang Wai is popular with wildlife enthusiasts. The sandbar at the intersection of the Kam Tin and Shan Pui rivers is especially good for observing a variety of birds, including migratory birds. Mudskippers and fiddler crabs are also abundant on the wetlands of Nam Sang Wai.
