All foreigners require a visa to enter Mainland China. Visas should be obtained from any Embassy or Consulate General of People's Republic of China in your own country before your departure to Mainland China. A standard China tourist visa is good for sightseeing and visiting friends and relatives, and can be obtained for a single entry (valid for 30 days) or double entry (valid for 90 days) from date of issue. It cannot be extended. Upon expiration, a new visa must be applied for. Multiple entry and business visas are also available. For details, please contact your nearest Chinese embassy or consulate.
Visitors travelling in a group , upon arrival in Hong Kong, can get a group visa or 144-hour Convenient Visa to travel to Guangdong Province . This is a separate piece of paper (not affixed to any passport), which requires that group members enter and exit China together.

Foreign visitors in Hong Kong can visit Guangdong Province for a maximum of 144 hours (6 days) via entry ports in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing, Huizhou and Shantou* using the 144-hour Convenient Visa.
To apply for the 144-hour Convenient Visa, visitors -
*The 144-hour Convenient Visa also applies to visitors travelling to Shantou in tour groups, on the condition that they enter and leave via Shantou.
The above policy is applicable to ordinary passport holders of nations with diplomatic relations with China.

Major Tour Operators organising group tours using 144-hour Convenient Visa
To apply for the 144-hour Convenient Visa, visitors -
- must join a tour organised by a registered Hong Kong Travel Agent
- must travel in a group consisting of a minimum 3 persons and a maximum of 40 persons
- can have a choice of ports of entry or exit in Guangdong Province
- must enter and leave the areas together via the above-stated ports of entry
*The 144-hour Convenient Visa also applies to visitors travelling to Shantou in tour groups, on the condition that they enter and leave via Shantou.
