THEATRE

Big glitzy Broadway-style musicals are always popular in Hong Kong, the most recent being a long run of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most successful musical ever, The Phantom of the Opera. Other big draws have been Rent, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning American musical starring local celebrity Karen Mok; old favourite The Sound of Music which celebrated its 45th anniversary in Hong Kong; and Saturday Night Fever and Mamma Mia! featuring the music of the Bee Gees. Other hits have been Singin' In The Rain Fame - the Musical, Les Misérables, and CHICAGO - The Musical.

Chinese opera is a highly respected art form that is thousands of years old. It blends Chinese legend, music, dance and drama into an exciting performance style, rich in symbolic meaning.
