Tai Long Wan Hike

Tai Long Wan Hike ( Maclehose Trail Section 2)

mapThis route covers part of Section 2 of the MacLehose Trail, where you’ll be treated to views of scenic coastline, mangroves and a chain of some of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong. Tai Long Wan literally translates as ‘Big Wave Bay’, and it has four spectacular beaches, each gazing upon the Pacific Ocean to the east. White sands and emerald waters are tempting diversions here for hikers in need of a refreshing dip.

You must pass through Tai Long Au to scale Sharp Peak, which, as its name suggests, is one of the steepest climbs in Hong Kong. Even if you wimp out on the climb, the views of Ham Tin Beach and Sharp Peak are breathtaking even from here.

hike icon Chek Keng

Chek Keng is a 200-year-old village in an inner gulf of Sai Kung. There are several kinds of mangroves growing near the shallow waters, which are inhabited by fiddler crabs and mudskippers.

This is where Section 2 of the MacLehose Trail ends and Section 3 begins. Together with the nearby Ngau Wu Tun, this is an ideal spot for camping and orienteering. It also commands a great view of Ko Tong Hau and the Wong Shek pier below.
