Hong Kong Summer Spectacular

Hot town, summer in the city, as the song goes… Well, the hottest town in summer in 2012 was Hong Kong, thanks to Hong Kong Summer Spectacular – the city's annual celebration of the sizzling season.

The event took visitors on a dizzying tour of Hong Kong's unrivalled cultural, shopping, dining and nightlife scenes. Hundreds of thousands of spectators converged on spectacular Victoria Harbour to cheer on thousands of the world’s best dragon boat athletes and to enjoy the party atmosphere at the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival. Shoppers were treated to the Visa go Shopping Indulgence promotions and music fans got to enjoy a great live gig with Summer Pop – Live in Hong Kong and a boisterous weekender at the Lan Kwai Fong Beer & Music Festival.

Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival

2012 Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival was as colourful and boisterous as ever, with around 400,000 spectators and 4,700 athletes representing 180 clubs and 20 countries. The week-long event included the legendary Hong Kong International Boat Races and the prestigious Lee Kum Kee 8th IDBF Club Crew World Championships. It wasn’t only the serious sporting action that drew the crowds, but also the carnival atmosphere and the food, beers and tunes at the San Miguel BeerFest.

Details of the 2013 event will be up in due course. Rest assured it will be every bit as good, so be ready to get yourself to the waterfront and in the middle of the fun!

Visa go Shopping Indulgence
Shop till ya drop and get fantastic prizes

As if the dizzying variety of Hong Kong shopping and the city’s wide array of summer sales were not enough, shoppers were pampered with even more rewards during Hong Kong Summer Spectacular 2012 with Visa go Shopping Indulgence.

The promotion included a draw with a grand prize of a HK$200,000 Visa spending credit with ten shoppers winning HK$10,000 Visa spending credits each. Additionally, Visa cardholders who spent at designated malls were rewarded with gift vouchers and enjoyed other promotions and rewards at 550 Quality Tourism Services (QTS) scheme accredited merchants.

Visa go Hong Kong Super Shopper

In August 2012, while most of the world’s media was distracted by a sport event in London, another, equally intense, competition was taking place in Hong Kong. Teams of two contestants representing nine countries and regions in Asia went head to head in Visa go Hong Kong Super Shopper – the Olympics of shopping!

Followed closely by media crews from around the region, the teams embarked on a three-day mission with tasks that included designing and completing the perfect shopping-trip itineraries for Hong Kong – travel plans that would help shoppers get the most out of Asia’s world city by also experiencing its dining, arts and culture, greenery and nightlife. The result was a tie with Team Mainland China and Team Thailand beating off the stiff competition to bag the grand prize – a HK$200,000 Visa spending credit.
