At 11pm on 31 December 2012, ‘shooting stars’ whizzed over Victoria Harbour. The hundreds of thousands of spectators that had gathered on the harbour-side made wishes and waited for midnight, when the city erupted into an eight-minute pyrotechnics display that started on the waters of the harbour and moved landwards, enveloping the skyscrapers on the shore, with the iconic Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre as the focal point.
