Schumann Fest:Schumann 1 & 2

Schumann said his first symphony was "born in a fiery hour", Filled with longing for spring and the summons to awakening that follows a harsh winter, the symphony speaks with confidence, power and hope.
In contrast, his second symphony followed one of the lowest points in Schumann's life, created as part of a process of healing following a period of depression-moving from quiet resolve to triumphant redemption.
Between these two works comes the freshness and humour of the Cello Concerto.
