  • The Hong Kong International Airport passenger terminal building was the world's largest airport terminal in 1998, according to Guinness World Records. The building is 1.3 kilometres long and covers an area of 550,000 square metres.

  • The Hong Kong International Airport, together with its related infrastructure - the Airport Core Programme - was voted one of the Top Ten Construction Achievements of the 20th Century in March 1999 at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG'99, a construction, aggregates and ready-mixed concrete industries trade show held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

  • The Tsing Ma Bridge, with a main span of 1,377 metres (4,518 feet) and a length of 2.2 kilometres, forms part of Lantau Island's first "fixed crossing" to mainland Kowloon, and is the world's longest span suspension bridge carrying both road and rail traffic, according to Guinness World Records. The magnificent bridge has won international acclaim, including the prestigious British Construction Industry Supreme Award in May 1997.

  • The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and its extension are among the world's and Asia's largest exhibition and convention facilities. The new addition of the HK$4.8 billion (US$615 million) extension, opened in 1997, not only more than doubled its size but has also given the coastline of Hong Kong Island a distinctive landmark.

  • Since 1996, a container freight station at Kwai Chung owned by Asia Terminals Ltd has been continuously recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's largest multi-level industrial building that is one discrete structure. A 15-level, 109.5 metre-tall building, the freight station provides a total of 865,937 square metres of space.

  • The Central-Mid-Levels Escalator and Walkway System in Hong Kong is the world's longest covered escalator system, according to Guinness World Records. The system, consisting of covered walkways, 20 reversible one-way escalators and three travelators, has the capacity to accommodate 210,600 passengers a day, and helps residents and visitors alike to make the 800-metre journey from Central to Mid-Levels, or vice versa, on a toll-free basis.
