The goal of this hike is to reach one of Hong Kong's highest points: the 702-metre Ma On Shan peak. Starting from sea level in Sai Kung, the walk heads into the hills and offers stunning views of mountains, valleys, ocean and Mainland China in the distance.
You pass a number of small villages and interesting sites like old Taoist tombs. The walk goes around Pyramid Peak to the top of Ma On Shan where you can enjoy unobstructed views of the surrounding countryside. Then you'll head downhill, through an abandoned village and back into Sai Kung town, which is famous for its alfresco seafood restaurants along the waterfront.
