Hong Kong's Cantonese-speaking people originally came from Guangdong province. Today, its capital, Guangzhou, is one of the most important industrial and trading centres in southern China. There are regular catamaran service, efficient expressway as well as rail links between Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Take a catamaran to Shekou to take in the city's sights including a kindergarten (school days only), local free-trade market, and exhibition centre for geological minerals. The tour continues to Guangzhou by tour coach for lunch and for a visit to the city's cultural and heritage highlights, including Dr Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Chen Clan's Ancestral Hall and Six Banyan Temple.

Lotus Mountain and Guangzhou Tour
The tour goes direct to Guangzhou by express train. The city tour includes visits to its cultural and heritage highlights: Dr Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and Chen Clan's Ancestral Hall (a fine example of Qing architecture). After lunch, the tour goes to Panyu to visit Lotus Mountain, an old quarry site renowned for its natural scenery. An hour's walk around the mountain offers views of interesting cliff and rock formations, and a view of one of China's tallest outdoor Kwan Yin (Goddess of Compassion) statues.

Return to Hong Kong in the late afternoon/early evening by fast catamaran.
