Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games
The Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) are coming to town from 5th to 13th December 2009. This is one of Asia's showpiece athletic gatherings featuring top-class athletes from nine participating countries and places: The People's Republic of China, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Hong Kong China, Japan, Korea, Macau China, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei and Guam. More than 3,000 athletes, the largest number of athletes ever to compete in the EAG will compete for 262 Gold medals in a record-breaking 22 sporting events. All told, 21 venues will be used to handle the events. The theme of the Hong Kong 2009 EAG is "Be the Legend" and the friendly mascots who will greet visitors to these Games are called Dony and Ami.

The tickets for the EAG are now available at HK Ticketing outlets, on the Internet or by phone (+852 3128 8288). Prices for sporting events range from HK$50 to HK$300. Who's coming
A comprehensive list of the athletes from nine countries and regions taking part in the Hong Kong 2009 East Asia Games (EAG) is available on the EAG's website. Heading the list are 2004 Olympic 110-metres hurdles champion Liu Xiang, 2008 synchronised three-metre springboard gold medallists Guo Jing-jing and Wu Minxia, and current Olympic badminton men’s singles champion Lin Dan. Other competing countries / regions are also sending top-class athletes, such as first and second ranked women’s paddlers Hirano Sayaka and Fukuhara Ai from Japan, and 2008 Olympic men’s 400-metre freestyle gold medallist Park Taehwan from Korea. Hong Kong, host city for this event, is also fielding its biggest team ever – nearly 380 athletes including the outstanding Wong Kam-po, men’s individual road racing champion (cycling) at the 11th National Games and table tennis stars Li Ching and Ko Lai-chak.
Cultural Carnivals and Cultural Nights
Come and enjoy three nights of free entertainment including cultural performances, stalls selling food and souvenirs from Chinese Taipei, Korea and Japan.
