Hong Kong Cricket Sixes 2012
Famed for its frenetic pace and thrilling high-scoring action, this year’s Hong Kong Cricket Sixes was extended to three days and featured 12 premier international teams.
Hosts Hong Kong beat Scotland in the quarter-final but failed to repeat victory over Pakistan in the semi-final. The in-form Pakistan team led by captain Abdul Razzaq secured a hard fought win against five-time champions England, claiming a record-tying fifth Hong Kong Cricket Sixes trophy.
Cricket fans were thrilled by the legendary Woodworm All Stars team whose heavy hitters included Sanath Jayasuriya and Shahid Afridi. Joining them were a coterie of premier cricketers from around the globe including South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs, Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla and Kiwi batsman Lou Vincent.
The All Stars also featured in a unique exhibition game on 28 October 2011 as they took on a team made up of players selected from the remaining tournament field in Hong Kong Cricket Sixes first ever international T20 match. Meanwhile both China Men's and Women's team also featured in exhibition play, adding more entertainment to the tournament.
