Kowloon Discovery Tour

The exotic name Kowloon means ‘nine dragons’, which refers to the eight hills that form the scenic mountain backdrop to the Kowloon peninsula. The ninth dragon is a Song dynasty (960 – 1279) Emperor, who is said to have remarked on them. If Hong Kong Island is the brain of Asia’s world city, then colourful chaotic Kowloon is its heart. Here wide-eyed visitors will find an intoxicating mix of the very old and the strikingly new -- teeming streets with tiny street stalls and smoky temples, only minutes away from upmarket hotels and glam-brand boutiques.

Your adventure begins at the lovely Chi Lin Nunnery and Nan Lian Garden. Chi Lin is a marvellously serene monastery, unlike any other in Hong Kong.  Constructed entirely of wood (without a single nail!), its graceful grounds boast carp-crammed lotus ponds. The nearby Nan Lian Garden is a traditional Tang dynasty-style garden, complete with fascinating rock art.

Next you head for the famed Jade Market, a fun place to watch the local obsession with this supposedly mystical stone, before continuing to Nathan Road. This historic street starts at the Star Ferry in Tsim Sha Tsui and heads due north towards Mong Kok. Here you will see locals indulging in their two favourite pastimes -- shopping and dining out!  You’re invited to join them with a stroll along Park Lane Shopper's Boulevard, a Nathan Road landmark, where some 20 shops present a dizzying array of products.
