Haikou is the capital of Hainan Province, the largest Special Economic Zone of the People's Republic of China. Haikou has a coastline of 131 kilometers. It also has a mild climate with long summers and no winters.

Haikou is a city for ecological tourism that is overflowing with the tropical seaside beauty, as well as the vibrant city life of Hainan Island. The rich resources for tourism is not limited to the natural scenery and modern theme parks such as tropical seashores with hot springs, oceanic forests, villages under the sea, volcanoes, tropical wildlife park and botanical gardens etc., the city is also the home for historical attractions such as the Five-lord Memorial Temple (Wugong Temple) and the Tomb of Hairui.
