Nan Ao Island is the only island county in Guangdong Province and is made up of 37 islands of various sizes. The Nan Ao Island is considered the 'Pearl on the Sea of Yuedong (Guangdong)'. Nan Ao Island has much to offer tourists: the cross between 'sea, mountain, history and temples' has been a distinctive feature of the area.
The blue skies, clear ocean, green islands, golden sands and white waves are key features of the ecological tourist experience available in Nan Ao.  Alternatively, exploring the islands, living by the sea, enjoying the sea breeze, swimming in the sea or savouring the mouth-watering seafood are other popular choices for everyone.  There is also the Qing Ao Bay Province-classed Tourist Resort, also known as the 'Eastern Hawaii', as well as 'Natural Arboretum at Sea in Southern China' - the National Forest Park of Huanghua Mountain. The island also contains a nature reserve which is known as 'Migratory Birds' Paradise'. The island also boasts the biggest wind power generating station for an island in Asia. Along with spots of historical interests such as the Army Generals Mansion, home of 158 generations of generals; the legendary but mysterious South-Song ancient wells, ancient ruins of the Prince's Tower and many other cultural relics, religious temples and places of historic interest that are significant in Chinese history.

The Huguangyan National Scenic Spot ( a National AAAA Scenic Spot) is located in the southern most part of China and 18 kilometres to the southwest of Zhanjiang. Inside the park is Maar Lake that was formed 140,000 to 160,000 years ago by volcanic eruptions. It is recognised by the UN as a 'natural almanac' for Earth and geology research.
The main scenic spot consists of this volcanic lake and the basalt rock-groups around the lake. The total area covers 13.6 square kilometres  and the water, which is some of the purest and clearest found anywhere in the area, amounts to 2.3 square kilometres. The views of the lake and mountains are stunning. Over the years, Buddhist monks have left many precious relics here.  There have been many sightings of the 'dragon fish' and 'fairy tortoise'.  There are neither frogs nor snakes in the lake, but yet tree leaves disappeared and vanished very quickly when they fell into the lake. The lake also possesses some mysterious purifying qualities, with the water temperature below the surface being three degrees cooler than the surface temperature. These natural puzzles still remained unsolved to this day.
