Fuzhou is an ancient city with a history dating back more than 2,100 years. The capital of Fujian province, Fuzhou is located in the eastern part of Fujian Province. The city covers a total area of 11,968 square kilometres on land and a total sea area of 110,900 square kilometres. The coastline stretches 1,137 kilometres, which is a third of the total length of the province's whole coastline and features many fine natural harbours.
Fuzhou is situated along the Min River and surrounded by mountains. With pleasant weather and a superb geographical location, the city is also known as 'Rongcheng' (City of Banyan Trees), the 'Hot Springs City' or the 'Resort in Jiangnan'. The climate is sub-tropical monsoon with an annual average temperature of about 19°C. April to November is considered the peak tourism season and the best time to visit.
