A Giant Harbour-front Street Party

Featuring a stunning array of colourful floats along with local and international performers the 2012 International Chinese New Year Night Parade was a huge hit with everyone that lined the parade route in Tsim Sha Tsui. The parade with its theme of World City. World Party, created a festive atmosphere and a memorable start to the Year of the Dragon.
Highlights of the 2012 parade included:

  • Twelve magnificently decorated and brightly lit floats set against the stunning backdrop of Victoria Harbour!
  • A range of international participants including: themed floats and performers from Thailand, Shaolin kung fu group and an acrobatic troupe from China, a comic band from Italy, a procession that features a giant fish statue from Japan, cultural dance groups from Korea and Moldova, stilt walkers from the Netherlands, a brass band and majorettes from Russia, a carnival group with big props and fantastic costumes from the United Kingdom, cheerleaders and a modern dance group from the USA.
  • Traditional dragon and lion dancers, ballerinas, hip hop and jazz dance troupes, costumed characters with giant props from Hong Kong, all of whom put on energetic performances that delighted the audience.
  • Before the actual parade, there was a huge street party along the parade route. Roving entertainment featured acrobats, ballerinas, cosplayers, a marching band, games and much more to warm up the crowd.
2012 Event Details:

Route:The parade starts at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza in Tsim Sha Tsui and proceeds along Canton Road, Haiphong Road, Nathan Road and Salisbury Road, and ends at Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel and Towers.

Directions: To Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui:
  • MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit F, follow the station passageway to Exit L6.
  • MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit L6.
  • Star Ferry from either Central or Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui.

To parade route:
  • MTR Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit A, C, D, E and G.
  • MTR East Tsim Sha Tsui Station Exit J, K, L1, L3, L5 and L6.

First held in 1996, this was the 17th year that the Hong Kong Tourism Board staged the world-renowned International Chinese New Year Parade. For the 14th consecutive year, this annual event was sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways. Be sure you come to Hong Kong and join in all the fun for a memorable start to the Chinese New Year.
