Hong Kong like Manu – Sample Itinerary

Follow in Manu’s footsteps and explore Hong Kong in four days

Day 1

AM : Ride on a historic Hong Kong Island tram and visit a local wet market on Chun Yeung Street. The fresh food market is lined with stalls selling fresh fruits, vegetables, meat and seafood.

Lunch : Take a stroll through the streets of Central and Sheung Wan past dried seafood and Chinese herb shops, you can sample some exotic items if you are as brave as Manu. Stop by a traditional Chinese restaurant and indulge in some Yum Cha

PM : For those who prefer a hassle-free journey, try a hop-on-hop-off Big Bus Tour with recorded commentary and stops at the city’s most iconic sights. 

 

Day 2

AM : Cross Victoria Harbour from Central to Kowloon in less than 10 minutes on the Star Ferry, it’s easy and cheap! Then jump on the MTR like the locals and make your way to the neighbourhood of Sham Shui Po, famous for family-run eateries and bakery shops.  Leave room in your stomach, as you’ll be savouring a dim sum lunch at the famous Tim Ho Wan restaurant, or let the pros show you around on a guided foodie tour.

PM : In the evening, wander up and down Temple Street Night Markets for souvenirs and more finger-licking local bites. Take a break at a Chinese desert shop and order a turtle jelly, recommended by Manu.

 

Day 3 - Explore the local culture on Hong Kong’s largest outlying island, Lantau Island.

AM : Start your journey with the Ngong Ping 360 cable-car ride, try the glass bottom crystal cabin like Manu. When you arrive, visit the impressive Big Buddha and explore the nearby Po Lin Monastery.

Lunch : Continue your adventure to Tai O Village, the oldest fishing village in Hong Kong.  Feast on mouth watering fresh seafood, and then wander past local specialty stores selling homemade shrimp paste, salted-fish and more. Don’t forget to take a boat trip to see the unique stilt houses along the water.

PM : Unwind by taking an evening harbour cruise or visiting a rooftop bar to watch the nightly multimedia show ‘A Symphony of Lights’ against the breathtaking skyline.

How many times have you visited Hong Kong?

The shoot for ‘Around the World’ was my 3rd trip to Hong Kong, I even got engaged to Clarissa there.

Describe the food scene there?

There are many different cuisines to choose from but the one you really should try while in Hong Kong is Cantonese Chinese, the one I enjoyed the most was Sichuan - hot and lip numbing!

Favourite restaurants in Hong Kong?

There are many places that I enjoyed eating in Hong Kong but I would have to choose L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, at The Landmark, in Central, as this is where Clarissa and I ate on the night I proposed to her.

Favourite bars in Hong Kong?

They have great cocktails and an amazing selection of Whiskey at Alibi in Cordis Hotel, in Mong Kok.

Your top tip for a first time traveller to Hong Kong?

Don't be scared to try the street food it is all delicious.

Travellers who are looking for a quirky experience in Hong Kong?

Visit the Chinese medicine shops; they are a museum of weird and wonderful things!
