Hong Kong Summer Q&A with Geneva Vanderzeil

When you catch-up with friends in Summer, where would you head for?
In the summer we head for the beach, whether it be for a picnic in Sai Kung, or lunch at Limewood in Repulse Bay. I’m never far from the sea during the hot months!

Where in Hong Kong do you like to pick up your Summer fashion essentials?
It’s hard to find good vintage stores in Hong Kong, but my favourite one has to be Mee & Gee, hidden down the Lanes in Central. It’s a chaotic store and usually standing room only but you can find some amazing gems for summer.

If you had one summer accessory what would it be, and where can we get it from?
I’m all about hats this summer (and indeed every summer), and to find one I would scout out all the little shops on Gough Street, the best place to find little quirky items.

Can you share with us your favourite hidden bars in Hong Kong, and why?

My favourite bar in Hong Kong would have to be Stockton, a speakeasy style whiskey bar hidden away behind Wyndham Street. It’s tricky to find but well worth the effort! Another great one is Missy Ho’s in Kennedy Town, a hole in the wall bar where having fun is an obligation.

What do you think Aussie travellers would love most about Hong Kong?
Hong Kong has a vibrant energy that’s infectious - it makes you want to see and do everything in the city, explore every alleyway and visit every store. The best thing to do is to dedicate days to different areas and really get to know the city by walking and wandering.
